This is part of a 24-drawing series for my figure communication class. Each week, we had to take 2 paintings by old masters and reinterpret them and/or change the angle. For this, I chose Ruben’s “Woman with a Mirror”.

KJ Davis. Not black and white, but I had to post anyway. This is a charcoal done by a girl I went to high school with. I had no idea how talented she was. A charcoal/pastel drawing completed over two 3-hour sessions in class. There are definite problems (man, do you see his left hand? Pffft.) but I really like it. I’m definitely improving, which is really heartening to see. This model always has the best costumes - this time he’s some kind of cowboy’s drunken sidekick - and had a great sneer on for both sessions.
